If you are shopping for an EV this year, understanding electric car rebates in Quebec can save you thousands of dollars. Two programs matter in 2026: Quebec’s Roulez vert rebate, which is winding down, and the federal Electric Vehicle Affordability Program (EVAP), which replaced the old iZEV incentive. Here is what each one pays, who qualifies and the deadlines to watch.
Electric car rebates in Quebec: the Roulez vert program in 2026
Roulez vert has been reduced year after year. For 2026, the amounts are based on the vehicle’s registration date:
- New fully electric vehicle: $2,000
- New plug-in hybrid with a battery of 15 kWh or more: $1,000
- New plug-in hybrid with a battery of 8 kWh to under 15 kWh: $500
- Used fully electric vehicle: $1,000
- Electric motorcycle: $500
The end date: December 31, 2026
According to the Government of Quebec, the Roulez vert program ends on December 31, 2026. Only the registration date counts: an earlier order or deposit does not lock in a rebate. Vehicles registered between February 1 and March 31, 2025, when the program was paused, are not eligible. Details and the list of eligible models are on the official Roulez vert page.
The federal EV Affordability Program (EVAP)
EVAP covers vehicles bought or leased on or after February 16, 2026 and runs until March 31, 2031, or until funds run out.
EVAP amounts by year
- 2026: $5,000 for battery-electric or fuel cell vehicles, $2,500 for plug-in hybrids
- 2027: $4,000 and $2,000
- 2028–2029: $3,000 and $1,500
- 2030–2031: $2,000 and $1,000
Key EVAP conditions
- Final transaction value of $50,000 or less, except vehicles built in Canada, which have no cap.
- Vehicle made in Canada or in a country with a free-trade agreement with Canada.
- New, light-duty, highway-capable and registered for the first time; demonstrators under 10,000 km qualify.
- Leases must be at least 12 months; 48 months or more gets the full amount.
- One incentive per individual over the life of the program.
The dealer handles the paperwork and applies the incentive on the bill of sale after taxes and fees. You cannot apply on your own. Full rules are on the Transport Canada EVAP page.
Timing your purchase in Quebec
- Before December 31, 2026: Roulez vert still pays up to $2,000 on a new EV, and EVAP is at its highest level.
- From January 1, 2027: Roulez vert ends and EVAP drops to $4,000 for an EV.
- Check delivery dates: for Roulez vert, registration must happen before the deadline, so confirm when the car can actually be plated.
Don’t forget the total cost
Rebates lower the purchase price, but financing, insurance and charging also count. Our guides on car loan vs leasing in Canada and the best used electric cars in Canada can help you compare options, including a used EV with the $1,000 Roulez vert rebate.
